Hey there John, it’s Aru with Sunrise Movement.
I’m writing with urgent news.
Last week, the New York Times reported that the Trump administration directed more than half a dozen U.S. attorneys’ offices to go after a philanthropic organization that disagrees with Trump’s agenda. The directive stems from a report by the Capital Research Center — a far-right think tank closely tied to powerful Republican figures, including Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
The report lists Sunrise Movement by name in the very first paragraph of the report. It's possible that Trump's politicization of the Justice Department leads to other groups that engage in nonviolent, peaceful protests like Sunrise being targeted

The playbook is clear. The Trump administration is targeting these groups in an attempt to silence peaceful protestors using their First Amendment rights. As Donald Trump makes plans to go after philanthropic foundations, our small-dollar donors will be essential to keeping our work running.
That’s why I am asking you to make a monthly donation to help fuel our work in a time that’s more critical than ever. [[link removed]]
Trump is escalating and making clear plans to target our First Amendment rights. This is part of a clear pattern: Donald Trump is directing his cronies to concoct baseless allegations against anyone who dares to stand up to him. He’s ready to shred constitutional rights to free speech to intimidate and quell anyone who criticizes him, whether it’s TV hosts or non-profit organizations like ours.
We have the right to disagree with the president of the United States. Everyone does. And if Donald Trump is fearful that we have the power to mobilize people in nonviolent direct action against authoritarianism, he should be. Because we aren’t backing down. Not now. Not ever
As Trump furthers his attacks on the First Amendment and progressive organizations, Sunrise needs to be ready to defend our constitutional rights if necessary. The reality is that this work takes funding, and if Trump’s unconstitutional attacks on philanthropic foundations increase the importance of small-dollar donors powering our movement.
That’s why we need people like you to step up now. Can you commit to making a monthly donation today to ensure Sunrise stays strong no matter what Trump throws our way? [[link removed]]
While Trump's actions are alarming, he knows progressive movements have the power to challenge his fascist agenda. This work will take all of us. I’m not backing down, and I am proud to have all of you by my side.
