My parents brought my family from India to the United States when I was 11.

I’ll always be grateful to my parents for that choice. On July 4th, we celebrate a nation that welcomed us and gave us a chance to succeed.

I earned a PhD, became a neuroscientist, and now I’m running for Congress.

Donald Trump and white nationalist minions like Stephen Miller hate the America that we love.

They have caged children, blocked refugees, and threatened to deport millions of DREAMers. Alarmed at a diverse America, they want to slam the door shut to immigrant families like mine for decades to come.

They call family unification “chain migration,” They call American-born children “anchor babies.” There is NO excuse for any Democrat to enable his racist agenda.

That’s why I was shocked when Rep. Josh Gottheimer worked with Republicans to sabotage a bill mandating better conditions for children in detention.

Gottheimer voted over 23 times with Trump for the border wall, for more ICE agents, and other planks of Trump’s anti-immigrant platform.

I decided to run against him, and stand up for immigrant families and our children.

We’re not going back. We’re not giving up on the America we love.

And on Tuesday, we will win.

Thank you for staying in the fight.
