ALL OUT FOR STRONGER RENT CONTROL
|
WEDNESDAY, October 1 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
|
After years of organizing, we’ve finally moved the City Council to consider updating the LA Rent Stabilization Ordinance (LARSO) — and now’s the time to push them to approve a rent control formula that truly protects working people. The Housing and Homelessness Committee meeting on 10/1 is a pivotal step to get stronger rent control through to the finish line, and we need everyone there to cap the rent!
|
- LA’s rent control formula hasn’t been updated in nearly 40 years.
- The current formula allows rent hikes that far outpace inflation, pushing more tenants into crisis.
- LARSO must be changed immediately to cap rent increases, remove unfair add-ons for utilities or extra tenants, and eliminate the floor that forces automatic rent hikes — even when inflation is low.
- LA’s housing crisis won’t wait. We need a new rent formula to stop more working Angelenos from being displaced.

Mass Organizations and Parties Introduction
|
Saturday, October 4 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, In Person

DSA-LA’s Mass Organizations and Parties Introduction is political education about DSA’s mass organization orientation and how it guides our organizing and politics.
We will provide a base-level understanding of how mass organizations and parties have operated and organized, and how they can serve as inspiration for us going forward. The political education focuses on the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the Congress of Industrial Organizations, and MORENA as examples for engaging in a broader discussion of effective models and strategies for building mass organizations and parties.
DSA-LA’s Mass Organizations and Parties Introduction is open to all and serves as a political education building block for those looking to engage in mass politics through DSA-LA.

Are you new or newly returning to DSA? To Los Angeles? To the Left? Curious about socialism? Then join us for DSA 101!
At this orientation, we'll talk about what capitalism is, how it functions, and why socialism is ideologically opposed to it. Participants will also learn about the history of our organization and our chapter in particular, the current projects we're working on, and how you can get involved. This is not a lecture, but a meeting for new and veteran organizers to ground ourselves in socialist theory and discuss together how we can put it into action. We're excited to chat with you!
