This September marked 65 years since the S.S. HOPE's maiden voyage to Indonesia and Vietnam. This was the world's first peacetime hospital ship, bringing medical care, training for healthcare workers, and HOPE to communities in need around the world. Though the ship has since retired, Project HOPE continues its legacy with the same core values: everyone deserves HOPE, health is a fundamental right, and together we can strengthen access to care around the world.

Those core values continue to guide our work today, when more countries are engaged in conflict than at any point since World War II. This is a disastrous trend for the world's health, as health systems suffer catastrophic damage wherever conflict takes root. Every day, health workers in places like Colombia, Ethiopia, Gaza, Haiti, and Sudan go to work facing life-threatening conditions. But even in conflict, we remain committed to building a better world through health and HOPE.

This work to deliver urgent relief with lasting impact is powered by the compassion of our generous supporters. At a time when the world can feel dark, donors make our work across the globe possible.

Changing How Ukraine Sees Disability

Since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have sustained life-altering injuries. For over a year, Project HOPE, together with its international partners, have been implementing the Rehab4U project, a five-year initiative to strengthen the rehabilitation sector. The project is challenging stereotypes and promoting inclusivity for people living with disabilities. Here are four voices behind changing the way Ukraine sees disability.

The Faces of Gaza's Hunger Emergency

Famine conditions are spreading across Gaza as a catastrophic lack of food threatens the health of the entire population, especially children. Every day that passes. The risk of starvation grows. Project HOPE's medical teams in Gaza are working to treat patients suffering from malnutrition every day with supplements including high-energy biscuits, ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF), and breast milk substitute. These are some of the names and faces of those suffering from Gaza's hunger emergency.
