Before Christmas it is likely several critical by-elections will be called for early 2026. Why? Because a number of Liberal MPs are expected to resign soon. By-elections present a unique opportunity to build our support, and to elect Green MPs, but only if we are ready!! That means paying down our debt faster and building up the resources to win. 

I am sure many of you also felt something between disgust and horror when Donald Trump took the podium at the United Nations. His incoherent rant against the UN itself over his challenging encounters with the teleprompter and the escalator was a small comic moment amid the horrors of his rejection of climate science, attacks on migrants and calls for the world to reject cheaper renewable energy and to ramp up the global furnace for runaway climate crisis.

As the lone Green MP in Parliament, I am holding our new government to account, while also trying to get work done with them, but time is running out on so many fronts. 

What keeps me going is knowing we have the opportunity to elect more Greens soon, well before the next general election. These upcoming by-elections are our chance to build the Green caucus that Canada desperately needs.

To be ready for these opportunities, we need to reach our Q3 fundraising goal. The party has set a stretch goal of $25,000 before midnight on Sept. 30th. Thanks to the generous support of 166 donors we have already raised $21,367.00 towards that goal! 

When Elections Canada publishes our fundraising numbers for the past three months, those numbers will tell a story. With your help, it can be a story of resistance to what we witnessed at the UN.

If just 37 more supporters give $100 – or 74 give $50 – we will reach our $25,000 stretch goal! Will you be one of them?
