The Broward Democratic Party would like to wish you all a happy and socially distant Independence Day.
Over the last few months we all have worked to end racism, confront police brutality, and reassert that love is not bound by identity or sexual orientation. We took to the streets and we shouted from the mountaintops that Black Lives Matter and we will continue to do so.
We have also been quarantined and socially distant because we believe in facts and science. Covid-19 does not discriminate, even though Black and Brown people have suffered more due to preexisting social and health inequities.
All of our actions have been guided by the values found within the Declaration of Independence, The United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. We protested because it is our obligation and duty, while living in America, to make this country live up to its plainly stated ideals.
As Democrats, we know that we aren't free until all of us are free. We also know that in order to have a just American society, we will have to fight for it. That fight involves our heroic military members or the average person marching for change. We know freedom comes at a cost, but that's the greatness of America. We are tasked to defend each other and at times force this country to be better. Come November, we will do just that.
Happy 4th of July everyone, stay safe, wear a mask, and keep fighting for change.
