Diana asked me to reach out because the government runs out of funding tomorrow. You deserve to know exactly how we got here.

Earlier this month, House Republicans jammed through a bill without even inviting Democrats to the table. Their plan would only keep the government open for a few weeks while locking in deep cuts to Medicaid and refusing to extend ACA subsidies.

In Colorado, that means 240,000 people could lose insurance coverage. In Denver, families could see their premiums jump by more than $200 a month. Diana stood firmly against it because she would never let Coloradans pay the price for political games.

The Senate threw that bill out the very same day. That should have been the moment to sit down and hammer out a real solution. Instead, Speaker Mike Johnson walked away. He even canceled votes scheduled for September 29 and 30. Then, Donald Trump stormed in at the last minute, threw a tantrum, and blew up bipartisan negotiations that might have kept the government open.

Now we are on the brink of a shutdown. The responsibility for this crisis belongs to Trump, Johnson, and every Republican enabling them. While they sit cozy in their inaction, it is everyday Americans who will pay the price. Families will face higher costs. Workers will go without paychecks. Communities will be left waiting in uncertainty.

Diana is working to bring this dysfunction to an end. She knows the only way forward is to take back the House next year and replace chaos with leadership that actually works for people.
