Friend,

Today we celebrate the ideals enshrined in our Declaration of Independence that have guided us for the past 244 years: that we are all created equal, and that each one of us has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

When we are at our best, we are a community and a country that inhabits those ideals. We breathe life into them with our words. We embody them with our actions. And on this Independence Day, let us celebrate our successes and recommit to endeavor together to continue building a more perfect union.
