Dear John,

Thank you to the thousands of people who contacted Congress this week to say: Stop spending our tax dollars on weapons and police militarization! It’s long past time to move that money into health care, education, and other vital programs that truly keep our communities safe and healthy. If you haven’t already, please take action today.

Here are this week’s resources to help you stay informed and support your activism.

AFSC and other Quaker organizations speak out against potential Israeli annexation of the West Bank: “As Quakers we are guided by our commitment to the principles of truth, integrity, equality, and peace. It is these values that lead us to speak out and to call for concrete and effective action to both oppose annexation and to counter the ongoing denial of Palestinian rights.”

Take action: Protect people in prisons from COVID-19: In U.S. jails and prisons, more than 75,000 people have been infected, and at least 657 incarcerated people and workers have died. Tell your governor and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to take action today!

A Quaker call to defund the police: The call to defund the police is part of the ongoing struggle to truly abolish slavery and the carceral systems that supplanted it—and it will take enormous creativity, innovation, healing, and political will to make that happen, writes AFSC’s Lucy Duncan.

Bringing COVID-19 testing to migrant farmworkers in Florida: As cases continue to rise at alarming rates, AFSC is working to ensure agricultural communities have access to testing, personal protective equipment, and other resources.

Humanitarian protections could be lost for hundreds of thousands of immigrants: A court decision is expected any day now on the fate of Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Here’s what you need to know about this life-saving program and how we can defend it.

The Trump administration is wrong to bring back federal executions: In the wake of this week’s Supreme Court decision not to hear a death penalty case, we revisit this 2019 piece by Arnie Alpert, who worked to abolish the death penalty in New Hampshire as a staff member with AFSC.

Be well and take care.
