September 29, 2025

Dear Georgian,

As many of you are aware, our fiscal year comes to a close this Tuesday, September 30. Nine days ago, the House, in a bipartisan vote, passed a clean short-term continuing resolution that allows our government agencies to continue operating at current funding levels until Nov 21st.  This additional time will hopefully lead to a long-term budget.

Unfortunately, Chuck Schumer is threatening to force our government into a shutdown unless democrats get their wish-list, requiring additional deficit spending – deficit spending that was rejected by the American people last November.

Today, Chuck Schumer and D.C. Democrats seek to cease the functioning of our government unless everyone else agrees to irresponsible demands such as free healthcare for illegal immigrants and a permanent continuation of COVID crisis subsidies.

Even if others agreed to this, they would likely change their demands. It seems they want a shutdown to blame the President for their failure to vote for things that they have already voted for.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Honoring the Lives of Fallen Heroes

Last week, I visited hallowed grounds, where many heroes are buried at Normandy.

Normandy was the site of the allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France. On June 6th, 1944, the allied forces descended on the beaches of Normandy, code named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. This was the largest amphibious invasion in history and would lead to the liberation of France and Western Europe.

I am constantly reminded of the sacrifices our men and women in uniform make in order to keep us safe. We can never take this sacrifice for granted and we can never stop praying for the loved ones of servicemembers that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation and all who call her home.

Receiving the Distinguished Citizen Award

I was honored to be awarded the Distinguished Citizen Award, last week, by the South Georgia Council for Boy Scouts. Scouting America is a storied institution in our country, raising generations of our young people as servants to their communities and our country.

I was blessed and honored to receive this award and look forward to seeing what these fantastic young folks are able to accomplish in the future.

GOP lawmaker calls for more attacks against drug smugglers

A member of the House Armed Services Committee told the Washington Examiner he wants to see “more” attacks against drug smugglers after Democrats challenged President Donald Trump’s decisive drone strikes against cartels operating off of Venezuela‘s coast.

“I commend President Trump for his decisive counternarcotics action and I am hopeful that we get more. I’d rather have every panga full of drugs be at the bottom of the ocean, than any more Americans be six feet in the ground due to drug overdoses,” Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) said.

Scott’s call comes as Senate Democrats claim that Trump has “no legal authority” to use military force, even though the Constitution designated him as commander in chief.

In a joint statement shared with the Washington Examiner, Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) said “blowing up boats without any legal justification risks dragging the United States into another war and provoking unjustified hostilities against our own citizens.”

Along with over two dozen other Senate Democrats, Kaine sent letters to the White House questioning the legal basis for the strikes. The letter stated that the administration had provided “no legitimate legal justification” and that no president can “secretly wage war or carry out unjustified killings.”

I think taking lethal action against narco-traffickers that aim to poison American cities is justified, but that’s just me.

Regardless, the senator introduced a resolution to direct the removal of armed forces from the Caribbean, which would allow an unprecedented amount of drugs to continue to enter the country.

“We’re introducing this legislation to require a debate and vote on whether the U.S. should be conducting these strikes without congressional approval,” Kaine said in the statement.

The Democrats have also challenged the validity of the president’s strike, adding that despite video footage clearly showing a speedboat attempting to go undetected and carrying packages of suspicious substances, it may not have been narco-traffickers after all.

“Your administration asserted, without evidence, that the individuals on the vessel and the vessel’s cargo posed a threat to the United States,” career politician Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) and 24 other Senate Democrats said in the letter to Trump.

“Did the individuals on that vessel pose an imminent threat to the lives of others?” the Democrats wrote in their letter, acting as if the introduction of highly lethal narcotics into American cities isn’t enough of an “imminent threat to the lives of others.”

The recent actions by Senate Democrats prove that, regardless of the magnitude of the threat posed to American lives, Democrats will continue to oppose any actions that Trump takes to put America first.
