As part of its annual legislation to set the Pentagon’s budget, Congress is considering a proposal that would require the renaming of military facilities and equipment currently named after figures from the Confederacy.

The proposal was already approved by the Senate’s Republican-controlled Armed Services Committee. And it has widespread support from Democrats AND Republicans throughout Congress.

Even Mitch McConnell — a descendant of a Confederate soldier — says he’s “OK” with the proposal.

So what is Donald Trump doing? Attacking the proposal and hurling racial slurs at the senator who first suggested it, Elizabeth Warren.

Here’s what Trump said on (of course) Twitter:

I will Veto the Defense Authorization Bill if the Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren (of all people!) Amendment, which will lead to the renaming (plus other bad things!) of Fort Bragg, Fort Robert E. Lee, and many other Military Bases from which we won Two World Wars, is in the Bill!

Just to be clear, Donald Trump is declaring allegiance to the traitors who waged war against their own country to perpetuate the institution of slavery.

Tell Congress:

Don’t back down. U.S. military bases should never have been named after those who fought to perpetuate slavery. It is past time to end this atrocity.

Add your name.

Thanks for taking action.
