Council Approves Just Home Project, But City Hall’s Objections Leave Future Unclear
The City Council approved the lease of city land to build housing for the formerly incarcerated in the Bronx, over the objections of the local councilmember and City Hall, which is now saying it wants to explore alternative sites for the plan. It’s the first time the Council has overruled one of its own on a land use issue since 2021.

“It is the right type of facility. It is the right location, and that district is in need of doing its fair share of housing,” said Councilmember Sandy Nurse, among those who voted in favor.
