Portland Is ‘Mostly Peaceful’
Democrats and Antifa aficionados (the Venn Diagram intersection is quite large) are criticizing President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard with an interesting argument that amounts to duplicating the famous CNN chyron: Portland is “mostly peaceful.” Sure, parts of the city are war zones, but not all of it. Nikolas Kristof of the New York Times has the funniest example of this line of argument. Nikolas Krisof: President Trump has dispatched federal troops to what he calls “war-ravaged Portland.” Portland has its problems but it is not the “hell” Trump claims; it remains a food-and-wine heaven. “Hell” does not serve Pinot Noir this good. I suspect Trump is sending troops mainly to see if he can provoke violence to distract from his messes (Epstein files, corruption, tariffs, economic softening) and justify his authoritarian rule. ( X) Daybreak prefers Cabernet, clean streets free of homeless drug addicts overdosing on fentanyl, and a lack of riots. Others apparently disagree on making these priorities.

Des Moines Liberals Take to the Streets to Support Gun-Toting Illegal Alien School Superintendent with Fake Degrees Arrested By ICE
You have to hand it to the leftists in Des Moines. Former Michele Obama Chief of Staff and current candidate for US Senate, Jackie Norris, chaired the school board that hired an illegal alien with a final deportation order to lead the Des Moines public school system, despite having a criminal record. He was caught and arrested by ICE after trying to flee with a gun, a knife, and thousands of dollars in his possession. The community is so outraged that they are protesting his arrest and demanding his release. Des Moines Register: A large crowd of people came together in downtown Des Moines Friday after calling for Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts to be released. Des Moines Public Schools confirmed Friday afternoon that Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts was detained by ICE. At that time, DMPS said it had not confirmed any information as to why Roberts is being detained. Quickly following news of his detainment, an emergency protest was called for on social media and organized to be outside the Neal Smith Federal building downtown. People started showing up at 4 p.m. What started as a crowd with dozens of people quickly grew to a crowd of easily more than 200 people. Many people held signs denouncing ICE, as well as signs with statements showing their support for Roberts and for him to be set free. Children and adults showed up, and teachers took part, both from Des Moines Public Schools and some school districts in the surrounding communities. ( Des Moines Register) “Dr.” Roberts—his Ph.D. is from a diploma mill—was hired to focus particularly on DEI. Jackie Norris, should she be elected to the US Senate, promises to bring her excellent public policy judgment to the lawmaking process.

AFT Local Union in Chicago Celebrates Communist Cop Killer as Freedom Fighter
Assata Shakur, a communist revolutionary who murdered a New Jersey State Trooper, escaped prison, and fled to Cuba to continue her leadership of the movement to oust the US government, died last week. She spent years on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List. The Chicago Teachers Union (which gifted the city its current communist mayor) celebrated her life. CTU on X: Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur. Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle. Assata refused to be silenced. She taught us that “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains. ( AFT Affiliate Chicago Teachers Union on X) Daybreak wonders whether the fact that 70% of Chicago students can’t read proficiently and more than 80% cannot do math is related to the political activism of the teachers in that community. Is it possible that devotion to communism and societal failure are related? Randi Weingarten has no comment.

Democrats Pretend That There Was No Lawfare Under Joe Biden
Despite multiple stories that appeared in The New York Times reporting that Biden told his underlings that Trump should be prosecuted, FBI investigations based on hoax-filled opposition research paid for by Hillary Clinton, Democratic Party prosecutors running for office promising to find a crime with which to prosecute Trump, Democrats are now appalled that James Comey is under indictment for his obvious lies to Congress. I assume that is linked to their belief that known perjurers like James Clapper and John Brennan are American heroes. Daybreak believes that Comey deserves his day in court and that he will, in any case, escape justice for his worst crimes, which are no longer prosecutable due to the statute of limitations. But Daybreak also refuses to be lectured about using lawfare against political opponents, for obvious reasons. They crossed that line over a decade ago when it came to Trump. Pretending that Democrats have clean hands on this is as insane as believing that Stacey Abrams and Hillary Clinton can legitimately lecture us about accepting election results without complaint. Salem’s own Scott Jennings sums up how most Republicans feel, via Matt Vespa. Scott Jennings: Every Democrat in this country for years made no secret about the fact that they wanted Donald Trump and his people prosecuted, put in jail, and prevented from running for reelection. They opened this box, and now they’re living in it. ( Matt Vespa at Townhall)

Eric Adams Bows Out of Race for Mayor of New York City
Current New York Mayor Eric Adams has gracefully bowed out of the race for the next term. Adams has been plagued by scandal—legitimately or not—and likely killed his chances by cozying up to Trump, which is an unforgivable sin in his circles. New York Post: The bombshell move comes after weeks of back-and-forth over whether Adams would bow out of the race, in which he is polling fourth, far behind frontrunner Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and also, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. “It’s been an honor to be your mayor,” Adams said in a video announcement, according to a transcript obtained by The Post, touting his victories over his first term — which include bringing crime down, building housing and dealing with the city’s brutal migrant crisis. “I strongly encourage who ever takes over City Hall to continue what we’ve done.” Adams did not endorse any of the other candidates, and even took subtle swipes at Mamdani and Cuomo — issuing a warning about local government being used to launder radical ideals and urging voters not to elect a mayor who’s flip-flopped on the issues. ( New York Post) Adams is falling on his sword in what is likely to be a vain hope of stopping the charming communist Zohran Mamdani from becoming Mayor of New York. Mamdani currently has an 80% chance of victory, according to the people willing to bet actual money on the race.

Tell Us What You Really Think, Washington Post
We’ve come a long way since “Brat Summer,” folks. Democrats have quietly grumbled about Kamala Harris since she dropped out of the presidential contest in 2019, but put on a brave face when speaking in public about her. No longer. The Washington Post unleashed their frustration this weekend on their Sunday opinion page, which Daybreak notes is one of the most read in the country and certainly voices the prevailing view of Democrats. Washington Post: No one, perhaps not even Kamala Harris, knows for certain whether Kamala Harris really wants to be president. The promotional tour for her new book hasn’t cleared up that mystery, but it has reminded the country why most Americans did not want her in the White House… Is Harris a brilliant political mind who simply freezes up in front of cameras? Alas, taking the time to organize her thoughts in writing doesn’t help much. Indeed, virtually every page of her book, “107 Days,” offers a glaring reminder of why she failed to close the deal… A once and perhaps future presidential candidate should have a better grasp on what presidential leadership sounds like, even in a self-serving memoir. Instead, Harris creates the image of herself as an A student who tells interviewers her greatest weakness is that she’s just too much of a perfectionist. The best that can be said about Harris’s step back into the spotlight is that it’s happening now. Democrats have a real shot at victory in 2028, but they won’t have time to waste on someone like the former vice president. ( Washington Post Editorial Board) If the Editorial Board of The Washington Post were Kristi Noem, Kamala Harris would be wise to avoid walks in gravel pits with them.

‘Make Assassinations Great Again’ Bumper Stickers and Music Now Available…
As Democrats and media figures keep hawking the “both sides” argument regarding political violence, leftist activists are less interested in muddying the waters. They openly embrace political violence and even sell albums and bumper stickers with the message “Make Assassinations Great Again.” ( X, X) It is a reprise of the theme from Trump I, where celebrities mused about actors shooting presidents, only democratized for the masses. Daybreak did a quick search and found that Apple, Spotify, and Amazon all feature an album by that name with a cartoon of Donald Trump, and tracks celebrating the murder of various world leaders. ( Apple, Amazon, Spotify) Daybreak cannot review the music, but we are certain that the moderators at these services love it. A Maine transgender restaurateur became famous over the weekend for sporting the bumper sticker on her car, and similar photos from around the country have also appeared. Nick Sotor: EXCLUSIVE: I’ve identified the individual with a “MAKE ASSASSlNATIONS GREAT AGAIN” bumper sticker (posted by TPUSA’s @AndrewKolvet) as 32 y/o radical LGBTQ activist named Susanna DeSilva of Topsham, Maine Susanna, who now goes by “Ray DeSilva,” was born female, owns a restaurant called Fishnet Cafe on Bailey Island, Maine, with her wife Ashley. I’ve forwarded this to DHS, who confirmed to me they’ve launched an investigation into DeSilva ( X). Are you surprised to learn that there is a connection to transgender ideology? Next you will tell Daybreak that there is gambling in Casablanca.

‘Protesters’ Bringing Guns and IEDs to ICE Protests
Homeland Security continues its work cleaning up the streets of American cities, and Democrats keep inciting violence against agents as they get shot and shot at. Several law enforcement officials have died in ambushes in recent months, and it has been a summer of riots and attacks on federal officials and facilities. The Dallas area, Portland, and Chicago have all been plagued by violence, and now Antifa terrorists are bringing guns and IEDs to the riots. Homeland Security: ARRESTS ARE BEING MADE: 11 violent rioters were arrested last night in Chicago outside the ICE detention facility: These are two guns that were taken off rioters in Chicago right against the fence at our ICE detention facility. An investigation is underway into what appears to be some sort of explosive device found last night near the ICE Chicago detention facility. ( Homeland Security on X) The riots, Daybreak is assured, are “mostly peaceful.”

The New York Times Platforms Accusation That Charlie Kirk Wanted to Stone Gays
The relationship between The New York Times and Nikole Hannah-Jones, the infamous racist of “1619 Project” fame, goes back a decade. During that time, she has, as their employee, published many falsehoods and promoted a horrific racist ideology that embodies the worst impulses of the DEI-obsessed left. On Sunday, they platformed Jones to slander Charlie Kirk as a disgusting bigot, including allowing her to repeat an oft-debunked slander that he promoted the stoning of gays. Nikole Hannah-Jones: The day Charlie Kirk was killed, Dominic Durant’s 11-year-old daughter came home from her middle school in Tulsa, Okla., and told her father that her friends had been very upset about his death, and that they felt she should be upset, too. “I’m sad,” she said, tears in her eyes. Durant struggled with how to respond. He, too, had been appalled by the act of violence. But his young daughter did not know much about Kirk, and he worried she would look him up on YouTube… As a Christian, Durant also felt he had to address Kirk’s version of Christianity, which condemned and disparaged people who are gay and transgender. Kirk once posted, “The pride and trans movements have always been about grooming kids.” And, in another instance, he had pointed to a passage in the Bible that said men who lay with other men “shall be stoned to death,” saying it “affirms God’s perfect law when it comes to sexual matters.” ( New York Times) The real Charlie Kirk was, in fact, a strong opponent of the LGBTQ+ movement, but he frequently toured with gay conservatives, criticizing people who rejected others based on their sexual preferences, and was good friends with many conservatives who are gay. Jones’ point in her piece is summed up: The mainstreaming of Charlie Kirk demonstrates that espousing open and explicit bigotry no longer relegates one to the fringe of political discourse. Blake Neff, producer of The Charlie Kirk Show was justifiably upset by the piece: …this Nikole Hannah-Jones article is… gross. Its purpose is to morally shame anyone who would feel sad for Kirk as a racist and a bad Christian. She praises a father for intervening after his daughter felt too upset about Kirk’s murder, while being sure to repeat the revolting smear that he wanted to stone gays. ( X) Slanders like those made by Nikole Hannah-Jones got Charlie Kirk killed, and Daybreak is not surprised that The New York Times is helping her promote this slander, but is disappointed, nonetheless.

Horrific Mass Shooting and Arson at LDS Church on Sunday
There were two shootings this weekend, which coincidentally were committed by Marine veterans from the War on Terror. The first perpetrator suffered from a traumatic brain injury and schizophrenia, and we know relatively little about the second yet. But the political finger-pointing began immediately, with conservatives noting a Trump/Vance sign with a Stop sign partially covering it, and liberals noting that he had American flags, and asserting that the stop sign was just holding the sign up. It is too early to know whether the large number of political donations through Act Blue were actually made by him. What Daybreak does know for certain is that veterans suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues need more support. NBC News: A man drove a vehicle through the front doors of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building today in Grand Blanc, Michigan, before opening fire. The suspect has been identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, according to one law enforcement source. He allegedly exited the vehicle and began firing rounds at people who were attending Sunday service, police said. The shooter used an assault rifle. At least two people are dead and multiple injured, authorities said. The suspect was also killed in the shooting. Authorities said a fire also broke out at the church and was believed to have been deliberately set by the gunman. The blaze has been extinguished, but investigators say more victims may be found inside. As many as three improvised devices were found at the scene, according to two senior U.S. law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation. ( NBC News) Please say a prayer for the victims, some of whom may have died in the fire.
