Hi friend,
I want to take a moment to share with you what is keeping me going, and why the work we’re doing at Win the Era matters. I am so grateful for your support and everything you make possible, and I hope this note comes as a reminder of what is on the line as we continue our efforts.
The dynamics of our moment have come down to this: Donald Trump and his allies want you to believe your voice doesn’t count. They create a bewildering wall of bad news, through a combination of petty insults and major abuses of power. The goal is to create a discouraged electorate that is easier to control. But the essence of America, through all of our better and worse moments, has to do with the fact that the will of the people always matters most. And just as importantly, a growing majority of Americans wants to see something different.
This is why I’m making plans to spend the weeks and months ahead traveling to communities across the country – supporting candidates in tough and important races, engaging in the conversations too many others shy away from, and showing up in communities that Washington overlooks.
On the ground, I spend time with the people who refuse to be discouraged, who refuse to give up – teachers, organizers, small-business owners, and first-time candidates stepping forward because they believe their communities deserve better. Win the Era exists to be a wind at the back of those leaders and citizens, modeling a style of politics that empowers them at this vital moment.
We have seen Trump and his allies try to write the American people out of our own political processes, most nakedly in the case of the redistricting efforts that would have elections be decided, in advance, by mapmakers instead of voters. But even conservative voters are making clear that this is not how we should be doing things in America, the world’s most important democracy.
And we have a chance to demonstrate, in this season, that our power is not so easily drowned out by the shock and awe of an abusive and increasingly unpopular administration. I draw hope and energy from seeing just how many people are using their voices, their social networks, their small individual donations, and their simple power as citizens to demand a better future for our country.
If you’re ready to be part of that work, I hope you’ll contribute ahead of our end-of-quarter deadline on Tuesday. Your support helps Win the Era amplify key voices, build grassroots strength, and protect the basic principle that the American people have the most important say in the decisions that will guide America.
