Dear John,

This October, we’re shining a light on an industry that touches us all every day: fashion. Behind the back-to-school clothes and Halloween costumes, most brands rely on toxic chemicals and plastic fabrics that put kids, families, and our environment at risk.

We’ll be joined by Maya Rommwatt of Defend Our Health for a Lunch & Learn conversation about their new scorecard, ranking kids’ clothing brands, why children are especially vulnerable to chemical exposures, and how we can push for safer, healthier choices.

I hope to see you there!

Friday, October 3, 12-1 PM: Protecting children and the planet from fashion's plastics and chemicals addiction

The fashion industry is hard to live without, yet it remains one of the least regulated industries. Fashion brands rely heavily on thousands of chemicals and mountains of plastic to create products that most of us wear every day, putting consumers, community members, and our planet at risk.

Hear from Maya Rommwatt, Director of Campaigns and Programs at Defend Our Health, about their recent scorecard, which ranks ten popular kids' clothing brands on their efforts to reduce plastic use and minimize the use of toxic chemicals. She'll explain why kids are more at risk from chemical exposures, how the fast fashion business model has created an insatiable demand for plastic clothes, and what consumers can do to try to protect themselves and push for meaningful change at the industry level.
