Happy Independence Day 2020! 



America is both an idea and an attitude.



America is the idea that we all are free, equal, and endowed with the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.  America is also a willingness to respect and work with others in good faith to improve our nation, realizing that our shared goals transcend our political differences.



As long as we hold true to those beliefs and commit, as a flawed people, to ever strive for that more perfect union, America will always be the world’s beacon of freedom.

Like our country, Ethan & Garrett will grow and change in the coming years.  Like America, they will learn some lessons—good, bad, and tragic.  They will make mistakes and have regrets that they will carry with them their entire lives. 



But like America, my boys, despite their failings, will also love, dream, and do some exceptional things.



America is not perfect, but we are still that shining city on hill.  And we always will be … if we believe in each other and hold true to the principles we affirmed on July 4, 1776.
