John,
Welcome to the latest edition of Emily’s Notes — updates from Washington’s 6th and Washington, D.C.!
Here’s what I’ve been up to:
• Nope. Absolutely not. — I voted NO on the Republican spending bill that would make health insurance more expensive for millions of Americans. Some of my GOP colleagues say they want to protect Medicaid and lower monthly premiums, but this bill does the opposite. Watch the video I posted right after the vote →

• The latest on the Bear Gulch Fire — I questioned Tom Schultz, the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, on the effect immigration raids have on our wildland firefighters’ ability to do their jobs. Take a minute and watch this clip from the hearing →
• At a loss for words — In the Natural Resources Committee, I asked a senior Trump administration official about cuts to LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) and got very few answers. Check out the coverage of our conversation →

• Orange collar crime — In the Oversight Committee, we debated bills to address the crime rate in DC. My colleagues and I raised the issue of the crime wave that began on January 20 at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Learn more about the wave of “orange collar crime” →
• My heritage — September is Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to remember and honor the culture, music, food, and celebrations that have been passed down from generation to generation. My office produced this tribute video along with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus →
Now is the part where I ask you for a donation.
Whether the issue is fighting wildfires, lowering energy costs, or protecting our neighbors, Trump administration officials can’t give straight answers. Either they won’t share what’s happening in their agencies, or they simply don’t know it.
This is what happens when you fire thousands of experienced public servants and replace them with unqualified yes-men.
Meanwhile, Republicans can’t pass a budget, even though they control the White House, the House, and the Senate!
Working people need a government that works. That’s why I’m doing my job to hold these agencies accountable and working to elect more bold, qualified leaders in 2026.
Can you chip in $25 or any amount before our end-of-quarter deadline? Your donations will be used to organize in Washington and in our adopted swing district so we can flip the House →
