Lights, Camera, Action
At the TaxPayersâ Alliance, weâre always looking for new ways to make the case for lower taxes, less waste and more accountability. Over the past year, weâve stepped up our efforts, producing more video content than ever before, launching a nation of taxpayers our weekly podcast, and reaching brand new audiences with hard-hitting investigations and campaigns.
From viral videos that rack up hundreds of thousands of views, to podcast episodes that confront the most pressing issues head on, more and more weâre skipping the old legacy media and delivering our message directly to hard-working Brits just like you.

Conversations in the TPA studio like Elliot Keck and Darwin Friend diving deep into proposed changes to inheritance tax ([link removed]) , or âbreaking newsâ shorts like this from William Yarwood on the national debt ([link removed]) have become a vital tool in getting taxpayers the information they need about whatâs really going on in the country and the harm politicians in Westminster are doing.
Or this weekâs episode of a nation of taxpayers (available on Apple Podcasts ([link removed]) , Spotify ([link removed]) , and YouTube ([link removed]) ) that sees William and Darwin join Duncan Barkes to look ahead at the budget, chewing over the recent ONS and OECD figures with an eye on what it might mean for the UK's economy, as well as the latest paper from the Labour-affiliated Resolution Foundation think-tank which contains proposals on how to get more cash from the taxpayer.
Weâre incredibly proud of our efforts so far and we hope youâve been enjoying them too.
But we donât want to stop here. To keep up the momentum, we need to upgrade our studio so we can produce even more professional, polished and persuasive content. Which is why weâre asking for your help. ([link removed]) The TPA is completely reliant on the generosity of our supporters and what we want to do sadly doesnât come cheap. From new cameras and lights to cables, memory cards, and extension leads, everything has its price.
We know that times are tough for many people and Rachel Reeves looks like sheâs coming back for even more in the autumn. But thatâs also why we want to be in the best position to hold her and her tax-grabbing cronies to account. Below are some of the things you can help us buy ([link removed]) that will let us do just that. These arenât necessarily the most exciting items, but they are essential to our plans.
ÂŁ6 will pay for an extension cable. ÂŁ10 will buy an XLR cable. ÂŁ62 will cover some lighting supports, while ÂŁ85.99 will get us a ceiling mount. ÂŁ100 will pay for a new microphone and stand.
Weâre always incredibly grateful for any support we receive and, as we expect from government, we stretch every pound as far as we can. Whatever support you can give will be spent as best as it can be and, as the Tesco ad says, every little helps.

ThinkTent 2025
The Lib Dems wrapped up their conference this week and our beleaguered prime minister with his merry band of socialists head to Liverpool today for a mixture of civil war and burying their heads in the sand. All of which means itâs just a week to go until the Tories gather in Manchester and, more importantly, ThinkTent 2025 ([link removed]) kicks off.
Now in its twelfth year, ThinkTent has become a staple of the fringe scene at Conservative conference playing host to 16 events over three days. Our dedicated event space within the conference secure zone, weâll be tackling the big topics from taxes and spending to immigration and welfare with senior politicians and rising stars, journalists and policy wonks. Check out the full line up here ([link removed]) . Attendance to ThinkTent events are open to all conference attendees on a first come first served basis.
As with our successful venture to Reformâs conference in Birmingham earlier this month, weâll be putting the interests of taxpayers at the heart of the Conservativeâs policy review programme. If you canât join us in Manchester, all ThinkTent events will be livestreamed on our dedicated website ([link removed]) . Let me know if weâll see you in Manchester.
ÂŁ600 migrant taxi bill
The chaos of illegal channel crossings continues and it seems barely a week goes by without some new scandal. This week was no exception. There was outrage in the TPA office when we heard that migrants are racking up bills of hundreds of pounds to be ferried around in taxis. One went on a 250 mile journey to visit a GP with taxpayers having to cough up ÂŁ600 for it.
Adding insult to injury, housing minister Matthew Pennycock defended the spending claiming theyâre ânot ordinary citizens just jumping on the busâ.
John OâConnell took to the pages of the Sun with a major op-ed to blast this latest outrage ([link removed]) : âSo the bus is good enough for âordinary citizensâ like me and you, but for the VIPs arriving on our southern shores uninvited, it just wonât cut the mustard⊠They benefit from taxpayer-funded debit cards with money loaded on every week. They get access to dental care and healthcare. Plus a host of other benefits and perks⊠Fairness has gone out the window. We have an explicitly two-tier system now.â
[link removed]
Not letting the matter rest there ([link removed]) , John was soon in the Talk studio sitting down with Mike Graham. John didnât hold back telling listeners : âThe system is clearly broken, itâs being taken for a ride, and itâs taxpayers who pick up the bill and theyâre the ordinary citizens who have to take the bus⊠The impact on taxpayers is disgusting.â
Rather than plot an extraordinary assault on the civil liberties of âordinary citizensâ with their ridiculous digital ID scheme, ministers ought to be cracking down on the benefits theyâre doling out to those with no right to be here in the first place.
Ed Davey represents the worst of British politics
As mentioned, the Liberal Democrats held their conference in Bournemouth this week, with party leader Ed Davey delivering his keynote speech on Tuesday. Having a little time on his hands, Elliot tuned in and itâs fair to say he wasnât left particularly enthused, as his blog on the matter makes clear ([link removed]) . Daveyâs particular brand of politics which avoids unpopular decisions at all costs or recognising any kind of trade-offs.
Elliot writes how Daveyâs speech ârevealed the bankruptcy at the heart of this brand of politics. With the economy at breaking point, the policy agenda the Lib Dems are attached to is no longer viable⊠Thatâs how to explain Daveyâs speech. He knows he has no answers. Lib Dems know they have no answers. They would like to spend more money, but have no proposals on reforms to the tax system that would do this without crippling the economy. They would like cheaper energy bills, but have no interest in abandoning the dogma of net zero. They would like their cuddly, liberal, high trust country, the one defined by cricket pavilions, village greens and fish and chip shops. Yet they have nothing to say on the mass migration that threatens to irreparably alter that ideal.â Have a read of Elliotâs corker of a blog here. ([link removed])
War on Waste
Joannaâs been working overtime these last few months with all her investigations. From exposing Ed Milibandâs jet setting to the thousands of public sector staff working from abroad, sheâs certainly been earning her keep. Have a read of her top investigations in her latest War on Waste blog here ([link removed]) .
