Happy Sunday, True Texans!
I love having a chance to share news and info each week, but WOW -- there's so much stuff coming at us so fast, it's really hard to decide what to highlight. I'll do my best...
My newest passion is UNT, the University of North Texas in Denton. It'd be tempting to write the school off as a lost cause, but I'm not ceding anymore territory to the enemy. They cannot have our young adults!!! This is a state school, and they are accountable to the taxpayers -- IF we will do our jobs and call them out. A&M and other schools have watchdogs on them all the time, but UNT seems to skate by with their bad behavior. Here are just a few shocking grievances. There are plenty more.
In 2022, Kelly Neidart described her time at UNT as the President of Young Conservatives of Texas like this: A week after getting death threats & getting 17k signatures on a petition to expel me, I had an event where I had to be rushed out of the building for my safety. Antifa cut me off and I was forced to hide in a janitor closet with the lights off while antifa searched for me.
When TTP speakers/activists Tracy Shannon and Kevin Whitt were on campus sharing their testimonies on transgenderism, they were surrounded by an angry mob throwing things at them, including a fake penis and milkshakes.
This university housed men with female students because the men claim to be women. When the issue was raised, the female student was made to feel like the bad guy, and she ultimately moved to off-campus housing before going to another school.
Now we have Mary-Catherine Hallmark who fears for her life on campus after telling classmates it is wrong to celebrate the murder of a man with a family. We interviewed her here. Can you imagine sending your 18-year-old, high school graduate to a school away from home where other students face no consequences for threatening to kill her??? Because it's Mary-Catherine this time, but it could be your child next.
And most recently, we learned that UNT offers a course on witchcraft! An American Demonology and Introduction to LGBTQ Studies examines "witchcraft, vodou, shamanism, and conjure" in American culture. Among the course readings is a paper that decribes Eve (from Genesis) as "the first witch." The author asserts women should embrace "queering the witch" as part of their identity. Other courses deal with transgender experiences, including drag performers and cross-dressers, as a way to show that "gender is not natural or fixed." [source] Folks, this is a state school funded by your tax dollars!
As Tracy Shannon put it, "UNT is rigid in its intolerance for Christians, conservatives, and free speech that doesn't align with their destructive orthodoxy on campus. UNT is the opposite of what a college should be like. They are anti-women, anti-Christian, anti-debate, anti-conservatism. They need to be defunded, their president and deans swept out and replaced."
Think this is just a Denton problem? Think again. As TTP activist Tamara Coleman pointed out, folks from all over the state send their high school graduates there and are trusting the university to care for them: "There must be an absolute ZERO TOLERANCE policy regarding threats of violence against students. We are witnessing people getting ass@ssinated on TV now actually. We are sending these children to school away from home."
So what do we do? My thought is that when there are a million fires to put out, we get overwhelmed and do nothing. Or small pockets of us act in our own areas, but we're so spread out, we fail to build a loud enough voice. Since this is a state school affecting all Texans who pay taxes and/or send their kids to it, if we all focus on ONE thing, it could not only make a difference at UNT, but hopefully would scare other schools straight as well. (And if not, we pivot after UNT to the next university that needs to be disciplined like a petulant child).
I like how TTP activist Tim Raine put it: "This is ridiculous! The Governor could handle this in a 'New York minute'. I wonder if this young woman could file suit against the University and some of these profs and administrators personally for a hostile environment, etc. Publish these profs' and administrators' photos. Make ‘em famous!" Doesn't that pretty well sum up what we all feel and want?
Please feel free to email both the Dean of Students at UNT and Gov Greg Abbott to let them know it's time to start expelling students. Conservative students should not be made to transfer to a new school when they are not the ones threatening violence. Remove the potential murderers! It ain't rocket science. Much thanks to Ken Paxton for his lead on this effort.
