In the 2018 midterms, Antonio Delgado (NY-19), Lucy McBath (GA-06), Xochitl Torres Small (NM-02), Lauren Underwood (IL-14), and Andy Kim (NJ-03) made history by winning in some of the toughest races in the country.

Diversity is our strength and there's no doubt that this country is better off because of their leadership in Washington. As first-term members of Congress, they've had a tremendous impact in the House of Representatives -- standing up for their constituents while being powerful voices for their communities.

Each of them won in a highly-competitive, swing district. That means they'll need our help to get re-elected this year, especially with Republicans planning to spend millions to take back control of the House.

When Cory was elected to the Senate in 2013, he was only the fourth African American to ever be elected to the US Senate. Clearly, there's still a long way to go to ensure that the diversity of our country is reflected in our governing bodies.

Now more than ever, it is critical that Congress actually looks like the people of our nation. As important as this is, it isn't going to stop Republicans from doing everything they can to defeat Antonio, Andy, Lucy, Xochitl, and Lauren this fall.

In the coming weeks and months, it's likely that Republican dark money groups will flood the airwaves in their districts with false, vicious attacks. It's up to us to make certain that these candidates of color have the resources to fight back and ultimately win in November.
