Every year, National Public Lands Day reminds us that there is still good in this world, John. People come together to connect with the outdoors while volunteers put in real work to protect the places we all treasure.
But at the same time, people like Donald Trump and Big Oil executives are working to destroy these places for profit.
This year alone, he’s opened millions of acres of our public lands to drilling and mining companies. He's stripped away protections that took decades to put in place. And his so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" slashed $267 million in staff funding for the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management right when our parks need them the most.
Our public lands are so much more than beautiful landscapes. These spaces nurture the next generation of environmental stewards. They serve as some of the few remaining places where people can connect with the natural world. And in a world full of pollution, they remain sanctuaries of clean air and water.
These lands belong to the people.
That's why we're asking you to take 2 minutes today, on National Public Lands Day, to join us and send a message to Congress urging them to protect our public lands from further deregulation, funding and personnel cuts, and being sold off to private developers.
We know it can sometimes feel like we can’t make a difference when it comes to this administration. But we believe when we raise our voices together, even the most powerful politicians have to listen.
In fact, just earlier this year, overwhelming pressure from letters like these forced Senator Mike Lee to back down from including a drastic expansion of public lands sales in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.
Our public lands have survived a lot, but they won't survive if we stay quiet.
Thank you for speaking out with us,
