Dear neighbor,

This week, I have been busy meeting with community members and local leaders across the district. I joined my colleagues and union leaders from across the region to stand up for our First Amendment rights. I hosted a "Know Your Rights" roundtable with CHIRLA and the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, as well as a roundtable with the VFW and American Legion Commanders in CA-31, to discuss priorities for veterans. I toured the Valley County Water District and met with the San Gabriel Valley Water Association. I also dropped in during Mr. Calderon Tabatabai’s civics class at El Monte High School to talk to students about what I do in Congress and how they can make their voices heard.

Thank you to CHIRLA and the Immigrant Defenders Law Center for joining me to host a Know Your Rights roundtable to educate on the actions we can take to protect our rights. With the Supreme Court authorizing racial profiling and our communities being terrorized by ICE, it’s more important than ever to know your legal rights.

I met with local VFW and American Legion Post Commanders in CA-31 to discuss improvements to veteran care and resources, and how we can strengthen our local veteran community. Our veterans bravely served our country, and they deserve the highest quality care.

I had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Calderon Tabatabai’s civics students at El Monte High School. The future is bright with the next generation of leaders!

This week, I toured the Valley County Water District with the San Gabriel Valley Water Association, the driving force behind groundwater replenishment and cleanup. Thanks for keeping our water clean and sustainable!

It’s always great to meet with the local leaders who help CA-31 cities thrive. El Monte Mayor Pro Tem Cortez and Councilmember Longoria stopped by my office to discuss the most pressing issues in your city. Thank you for all the work you do for the residents of El Monte. I look forward to our continued partnership in serving the community.

The tax credits that help working families afford healthcare are set to expire while Republican leadership turns a blind eye. Today, I toured the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine to speak with staff and see the incredible medical and educational facilities that are at risk of funding cuts that will impact their students, patients, and critical care services around our community.

I joined my colleagues and union leaders to stand up for our First Amendment rights. This is the United States of America – a nation that does not silence voices of dissent.

Tomorrow is National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort, established in 1994 by the National Environmental Education Foundation in partnership with the National Park Service. It’s a great reminder to keep our local parks and outdoor spaces clean, and to stay involved with maintaining these wonderful community resources!
