With just four days until the quarterly public reporting deadline to reach my $30,000 goal, I'm about to ask you to chip in any amount you can. But since the deadline to make a deal to keep the government open falls at the same time, I want to make sure you understand exactly how we got here.

First things first: Trump's Big Ugly Bill is going to create a serious health care crisis, kicking millions of Americans off their coverage, and meanwhile Republicans are refusing to extend critical Obamacare tax credits – which means premiums are set to skyrocket for millions more. 

So Democrats made it clear: We want to keep the government open AND save your health care. Republican leadership and Donald Trump have completely refused to even TALK with Democrats.

Then this week: Democratic leadership was finally going to meet with the president to hash out a way forward to avoid a shutdown – until Donald Trump threw a tantrum and abruptly CANCELED it.

Now: Republican leadership and President Trump STILL refuse to meet with Democrats. As of now, House Republicans don’t even plan to be in town when government funding runs out next week – it’s completely outrageous.

Don't get me wrong, friend – I want to solve the GOP's self-made health care crisis and keep the government open. I really do. But Republicans would rather hand tax breaks to billionaires than even talk about how to make health care affordable.

And since they control the House, Senate, and White House, they'll have no one to blame for their inability to govern but themselves come Sept. 30.

So in the meantime, I'm counting on a SURGE of grassroots support to hit my $30,000 end-of-quarter goal that night. That way, we'll get a head start on building the resources we need to hold the GOP accountable for their failure and brinksmanship – by ENDING their Senate majority in the next election cycle.
