As we celebrate Independence Day this weekend, many of us may be outside with our families safely enjoying the fresh air. But for some communities, the air will be anything but clean.

The Trump administration has recently doubled-down on policies that make air pollution worse -- even using this pandemic as an excuse to give corporate polluters a "free pass" to dirty our air.

The Guardian News: Trump dismantles environmental protections under cover of coronavirus

"The Trump administration is diligently weakening US environment protections even amid a global pandemic... [The administration has] eased fuel-efficiency standards for new cars; frozen rules for soot air pollution; proposed to drop review requirements for liquefied natural gas terminals..."

With our climate and health so closely linked, now is perhaps the worst time to weaken our environmental protections. That's especially true in communities of color, which are disproportionately burdened by pollution and see higher rates of respiratory illness.
