Dear Friends,
A potential government shutdown on September 30 threatens to disrupt the stability families count on every day. We need a government that works for the people, not one that leaves Americans facing uncertainty about paychecks, healthcare, and essential services.
Here at home, I met with small business owners in Hyde Park who are creating jobs, nurturing local talent, and strengthening our neighborhoods despite rising challenges. I also joined the South Shore Chamber on 71st Street, where bold work is underway to revitalize vacant spaces, support entrepreneurs, and build lasting community wealth.
A Shutdown of Republicans’ Own Making
I joined my Democratic colleagues in working to stop a Republican-led government shutdown. Families deserve a stable government that protects their paychecks, healthcare, and essential services—not political games that put those things at risk.
I will keep fighting to protect the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid so every American can get the care they need.
Celebrating Local Strength: A Visit with Hyde Park Entrepreneurs

On Monday, I visited three incredible small businesses in our district—Recycled Modern, StruggleBeard Bakery, and The Silverroom. These entrepreneurs embody the backbone of our neighborhoods, creating jobs and building community. We discussed the challenges they face, from rising costs to federal law enforcement concerns, and the importance of supporting local talent to keep our main streets strong and vibrant.
Investing in South Shore’s Small Business Power
On Monday, I joined the South Shore Chamber of Commerce for a walk along the 71st Street corridor to see their bold plans in action. The Chamber is working to revitalize commercial spaces, redevelop vacant properties, support local entrepreneurs, and build community wealth.
I am proud to support their vision to bring new energy, jobs, and opportunity to the South Shore. You can learn more about the South Shore Chamber of Commerce here.
