Dear Washingtonians,
It’s officially fall in DC — we’re a month into the school year, the city is abuzz with CBC Week events, and just last night we celebrated the finale of 202Creates Month at the Mayor’s Arts Awards. And this weekend is filled with even more events that remind us why DC is the best city in the world:
And at City Hall, we remain focused on the work of keeping DC safe, affordable, resilient, and growing. While the big news last week was RFK, the Council also passed the RENTAL Act, which represents important progress in stabilizing DC’s affordable housing market and getting it back on track as a great place for investors. The Council also voted to pass the collective bargaining agreement that will give our police officers a 13% raise.
Of course, on October 1, we’ll begin the new Fiscal Year. And in the coming weeks, we also plan to advance additional pieces of our Growth Agenda. What I want people to know is that we mean business in Washington, DC — and we mean to be good for business in Washington, DC. And we are: we balance our budgets, we have great credit ratings, and we’re a great bet. But we also know that our economy is shifting and we need to shift with it. We have to attract different businesses that are hiring DC residents, and we have to be a region that’s sticky so that we hold on to our businesses and our residents. So that will be our focus in the coming weeks as we keep the Growth Agenda moving forward.
Enjoy the weekend, DC.
Sincerely,

This Saturday, join the Department of Motor Vehicles and the DC Highway Safety Office for a free car seat checkup event. DC residents can get a free car seat (with proof of residence and child present). If you already have one, technicians will help you install it, or check that it's already correctly installed.
