In Gaza, families have suffered continuous bombardment and deprivation for nearly two years, stripping children of health, safety and education. As they’re forced out of their communities and aid continues to be restricted, access to nutritious food has become a distant memory.
A recent United Nations-backed report confirmed famine is occurring in Gaza, with more than 70,000 cases of children under 5 and 17,000 cases of pregnant and breastfeeding women facing acute malnutrition across the region.
Meanwhile, in Sudan, famine has been declared in the Darfur region. Millions face starvation after more than a year of conflict, floods, displacement and disease — with 3.2 million children under 5 projected to suffer from acute malnutrition in the next year.
Save the Children is working in places like Gaza and Sudan to provide both immediate relief and long-term support. We’re providing health care, nutrition services and safe drinking water while also establishing child protection, education programs and psychosocial support for children.
In the U.S., for example, our teams are working in multiple rural communities to bridge the education gap through early learning programs that help children succeed in school and beyond.
In the face of unprecedented hardship, Save the Children remains committed to reaching children everywhere to ensure they can survive and thrive.
John, your gift to Save the Children today can make a life-changing difference for children facing some of the most difficult challenges — in the U.S. and around the world. Give today to reach children living in the places where it’s toughest to be a kid.
