Hi John,
Today, the Scottish courts issued Greenpeace with an £80,000 fine. Why? Because BP's rig operator insisted Greenpeace should be punished for trying to stop BP's reckless plans to fuel the climate emergency.
I knew the consequences we were facing by continuing to occupy the oil rig. I knew I could face prison or we could face a fine for our actions. But the risks of not taking a stand against Big Oil are far far greater for everyone, especially those people who are living on the frontline of climate change impacts.
Last year, brave activists climbed a BP oil rig to stop it going out to the North Sea to drill for 30 million barrels of oil which our world cannot afford to burn. Today, the legal action brought by Transocean, BP's rig operator, has punished us for peacefully trying to protect the planet.
Big Oil is trying to scare activists and campaign groups from speaking out against companies who are driving the climate and nature emergency. Now they may well have powerful allies but they don't have you. Please will you help us continue to stand up against them?
This week a group of generous supporters has offered to double what we raise, meaning a gift from you today would have twice the impact.
A donation from you will go twice as far towards our Climate Emergency Action Fund. Your support could go towards challenging Big Oil and other polluting industries wrecking our climate. It only takes two minutes:

We will not give up. With your support today, we will put pressure on BP to end their addiction to dirty fossil fuels and demand they invest in a renewable energy future. We'll keep battling in the courts for climate justice and we'll keep taking peaceful action - just like we did by challenging the Heathrow third runway and challenging BP's Vorlich oil permits in the High Court.
Your donation today to our Climate Emergency Action Fund could help us protect our planet and help end the climate crisis. Evidence of the climate emergency is all around us. Whether it's record temperatures in the Arctic or the devastating fires in Australia and the Amazon, extreme weather is becoming increasingly regular and ferocious. Which is why we will not let Big Oil silence our protest.
Before the Scottish courts decision today, Greenpeace successfully challenged BP's drilling permit in the North Sea (the very one we were protesting against). We were able to get the government to admit that the process of awarding BP's permit in the North Sea was unlawful. [1]
We've now launched a second legal bid to get BP's drilling permit cancelled altogether.
If our legal challenge is successful, this could prevent BP from extracting oil from the Vorlich field in the North Sea. It would also set a huge precedent because many other similar climate-wrecking permits could be challenged in the same way.
But we can't continue to stand up for climate justice in court without your support.
Your donation will be matched and have twice the impact. Will you donate to our Climate Emergency Action Fund today, to power our legal challenges against climate-wrecking industries and set new legal precedents that could protect our planet well into the future? It only takes two minutes:

Instead of offering climate-wrecking companies permits for new drilling, the government should prioritise people and planet by beginning a just transition to renewable energy and new green jobs.
Greenpeace will continue this fight in the courts, and seek to get BP's permit completely quashed - to stop BP further wrecking our climate at a time when we need to build a better and greener future.
We can't continue to stand up for climate action in court without your support.
Will you give a gift today that could help pay for our legal fees and continue our campaign against companies that are wrecking our climate? Remember it will be matched, meaning your donation will have double the impact. It only takes two minutes:

Since last year's rig protest and the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, our world has changed dramatically. We've been reminded that we are deeply connected to the world around us. If we want to bring our natural world back into balance, we need a new economy that is sustainable, resilient and green.
With the future of our planet at risk, and with people like you supporting us - we will not be silenced. We will defend our right to peaceful protest and will continue to take legal action against companies harming the planet
Thank you for helping to secure a greener, safer and more peaceful planet.
John Sauven
Executive Director
Greenpeace UK
P.S Your gift will be DOUBLED and have twice the impact. Please, support our Climate Emergency Action Fund today ([link removed]) to make a stand against Big Oil threatening the health of our planet and all our lives.
