Friend,
This is a historic moment: Brady just helped pass a first-of-its-kind bill to help prevent the proliferation of 3D printed ghost guns and save lives in California.
Ghost guns are unserialized, untraceable guns that can be made using a 3D printer – often chosen by prohibited purchasers and gun traffickers to circumvent California’s strong gun laws. But now, once signed by the governor, California’s new law will regulate and require background checks on firearm barrels, a component essential in completing lethal ghost guns, which is nearly impossible to manufacture using a 3D printer.
For too long, criminals and segments of the gun industry have found ways to circumvent state and federal firearm regulations with ghost guns. California is once again leading the charge in proactively legislating to close loopholes and save lives from gun violence. This is an important step forward, and we need more lawmakers to follow suit. If you agree, will you respond to Brady’s live poll right now and make your voice heard?

California is leading the charge in addressing the rising public health threat of 3-D printed ghost guns by enacting innovative and preventative regulations, setting new precedent for how we can end the proliferation of these deadly firearms, and continuing the state’s legacy as a leader in this movement. In 2022, California's legislature swiftly took action against the proliferation of ghost guns made from ghost gun kits. But criminals are finding new ways to evade the laws, and proactive policies are how we’ll hold the line. Three-dimensionally printed ghost guns are now the emerging threat.
Firearm barrels are the only parts of a functional firearm that cannot effectively be produced using a 3D printer. And they are unregulated, meaning any number of them could be purchased online or in-store without a background check or any restrictions. Unfettered access to barrels meant anyone with a 3D printer could manufacture a fully-functional, untraceable firearm. If you support Brady and California in this fight to get ahead of these bad actors, will you respond to our poll now?

This marks a significant step in how policy will combat gun violence, getting ahead of issues where we are too often combating only after people are hurt. The passage of this bill is just the latest example of cutting-edge solutions in a state whose elected leaders regularly demonstrate dedication to fighting the illegal gun market and reducing gun deaths. Brady will continue to lead this charge and keep changing our country for the better.
In solidarity,
Kris Brown
