The paths of fish passage

In simplest terms, fish passage allows the free movement of fish upstream and downstream to access spawning areas, thermal refuge, escape predation and meet other life cycle needs by removing or providing detours around barriers such as dams. Biologists have long recognized the potential limitations imposed by man-made, riverine structures on fish communities and have seen the effects of fish loss to diversions. However, only recently has there been widespread interest and ability to address *fish passage* [ [link removed] ] issues.

Whirling disease-resistant rainbow trout

On July 31, 2025, approximately 2,000 Gunnison River/Hofer-cross rainbow trout were released into the North Tongue River. The fish were transported more than 650 miles the previous day from the Pitkin State Fish Hatchery in Colorado. In addition to being long-distance travelers, the fish are special due to a unique genetic trait - *they are resistant to the impacts of whirling disease. [ [link removed] ]*

The *training* [ [link removed] ] will provide the skills necessary for participants to inspect their own or other watercraft to be used in Wyoming to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species such as zebra or quagga mussels. 




Wyoming watercraft registration closing for fall

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be *closing the 2025 watercraft registrations* [ [link removed] ] and preparing for the 2026 season during the month of October. Watercraft registrations will resume again November 1, 2025 at Game and Fish offices and online






Advisory board on commercial fishing approves recommendations to change regulations

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Commercial Fishing Boat Advisory Board agreed on *several recommendations* [ [link removed] ] to approve changes to the state's proposed Chapter 71 regulations.
