I’ve always stood up for victims — whether it’s survivors of stalking, families who’ve lost loved ones to addiction, or communities devastated by domestic violence.

Phil Weiser for Colorado

Friend, recently, I sat down with my friend Coles Whalen, a singer-songwriter from Denver whose life and career were turned upside down by a stalker — a case I had the honor of arguing before the Supreme Court.

We talked about her experience, and my commitment to standing up for victims of all forms of violence and abuse — including stalking.

Her story is so powerful, and I’m glad that I was able to have this conversation with her. Take a moment to watch our discussion, and if it moves you, I’d be grateful if you’d consider pitching in to support my campaign for Governor:

For six years, a man Coles had never met sent her thousands of threatening messages, before eventually being convicted of stalking here in Colorado.

Coles was finally able to close the door on that awful chapter of her life — until 2023, when the U.S. Supreme Court decided to take up the case on First Amendment grounds.

That’s when I met Coles. I stepped up to take on her case in front of the Supreme Court, defending both her stalker’s conviction and the constitutionality of Colorado’s stalking laws.

I’ve always stood up for victims — whether it’s survivors of stalking, families who’ve lost loved ones to addiction, or communities devastated by domestic violence.

But far too often, victims lack access to support and the critical services they need. That’s why I’ve fought to change that by:

  • Championing Proposition KK, and securing new funds for victim services by taxing ammunition.

  • Holding prosecutors accountable when they fail to respect victims’ rights under Colorado law.

  • Partnering with organizations like Porchlight and TESSA to provide lifelines to survivors in crisis.

  • Training law enforcement on how to interact with victims and how to investigate stalking cases like Coles’.

But there’s still so much more to do, and that’s why I’m asking for your support in this race to be Colorado’s next Governor.

As Governor, I’ll keep up the fight to ensure every victim has the resources, respect, and protection they need to rebuild their lives.

If you share my vision, I hope you’ll make a donation to my campaign and help me stand up for Colorado’s values — compassion, justice, and safety for all — as our next Governor.
