Jack, almost daily we are seeing a new all-time high record of COVID-19 cases as new hotspots emerge and the virus surges around the country. We haven't flattened the curve, we just changed where it's hitting hardest.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. Many Americans have only been able to get by because of federal stimulus, expanded unemployment benefits and a moratorium on some evictions. But all of that is due to run out by the end of the month unless the Senate takes action.

Not only has Daily Kos brought you the facts about the COVID-19 pandemic, but we have given you the tools to take immediate action and make your voice heard. Daily Kos readers and activists have taken over 3 million actions demanding that our policymakers address the urgent needs of the growing public health crisis and the economic collapse that has affected so many families.

Millions of Americans could have their economic lifelines yanked away at the end of the month. We need to ramp up our efforts to guarantee that they'll be able to keep the roof over their heads and put food on the table. Can you give $5 NOW to help us pressure the Senate to pass the HEROES Act?

In late March, the government passed the CARES Act; it provided the stimulus checks that many households received and expanded unemployment benefits, expanded the benefits of SNAP and provided PPE for essential workers. It was a lifeline for millions of American families.

According to a recent poll, 69% of voters said they or someone in their household have been helped by the CARES Act. But the majority of voters are concerned about what lies ahead if the benefits of the CARES Act are not extended -- that there will be more layoffs and cuts to state and local services. Two-thirds of voters in the survey support the HEROES Act, a relief package that was passed by the House in May.

The HEROES Act would address many of the concerns that citizens have -- it would extend unemployment insurance, provide funding for schools and essential public services, student loan forgiveness, funding for SNAP programs and food banks, and safeguard our elections while supporting the United States Postal Service.

Unfortunately, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell wants to wait till AFTER the Senate's two week-long 4th of July recess to even start negotiations as most Republicans are reluctant to pass another stimulus package. If McConnell has his way, we won't see the Senate vote on a new relief package till August; after many of the benefits run out.

This is the time that we need to make our voices heard and let our Senators know that we need to pass the HEROES Act. You can help us by giving $5 TODAY.

Keep fighting,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
