Friend,
As we head into Independence Day weekend, we have a chance to reflect on the potential of our country and the work we need to do to make the American Dream a reality for everyone.
This includes the 800,000 young people known as "DREAMers" who came to our country as undocumented children, living in the United States for as long as they can remember.
In 2012, President Obama issued an executive order to protect these young people from the threat of deportation. But in 2017, the Trump Administration rescinded the program, upending the lives of DREAMers. After years of legal challenges, recently, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump Administration's decision to end the program was unlawful, keeping the program in place...for now.
While the Supreme Court's decision is a temporary victory, it was ultimately based on a technicality. Trump still has the authority to end the program using other legal procedures, unless Congress acts to protect DREAMers.
DREAMers will continue to be used as political pawns until Congress passes a permanent solution. The House finally passed the DREAM Act last year, but Mitch McConnell refuses to bring it to a vote in the Senate. We need a clean DREAM Act, and we need it now.

These DREAMers are our friends, neighbors, and colleagues -- even serving in the U.S. military. Nearly 3,400 call the 53rd District home.
DREAMers deserve better than this constant uncertainty. Here's what one of my friends told me when the Supreme Court first heard the case:
"I've worked hard to make this country a better place for everyone. This country, through trials and tribulations, has given me everything I could ever imagine and more. It's given me the opportunity to chase and work towards my own American Dream. This is my home. This is where I belong."
I hope you'll join me and show support for our DREAMers. Sign the petition today to demand Congress pass the DREAM Act. sarajacobs.cp.bsd.net/page/signup/dream
