Let’s continue this work together.
We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.
John,
I wanted to take a moment and say thank you for standing with us against oppression and racism during this critical moment.
Over the past two months, the United States has faced a turning point in our conversations around race. Black Americans have endured centuries of pain and injustice. Immigrant families live in constant fear of separation and deportation. The number of COVID cases in Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention camps and custody is dangerously disproportionate to the rest of the country, with thousands of detainees testing positive, unable to social distance or access the necessary supplies to protect themselves from COVID.
Organizers across the nation are seizing this powerful moment to push for concrete changes — and it’s working. We are watching legislation and powerful policy reform happen in real-time.
Police reform, the preservation of DACA, and the election of progressive leaders are real thanks to organizers and protesters, but it’s time for Congress to step up. I am working around the clock to ensure that our community’s voices are heard loud and clear.
It’s a privilege to work side by side with you as we demand a more just and fair world. We’ve got a lot of work to do.
¡Sí se Puede!
