Dear John,

Throughout the month of June, the NeW Network read She Factor: Present Power, Future Fierce ([link removed]) by Heidi Ganahl, founder of the multi-million dollar pet company, Camp Bow Wow, and NeW Advisory Board Member. This is an example of the NeW online programming that is meeting the demand of members. We are pleased to provide book club meetings to provide connection at this isolating time.

In the book, Ganahl shares her incredible story of hitting rock bottom and experiencing complete devastation to becoming one of the most recognized female entrepreneurs in the country. She guides readers through her journey of discovering and pursuing her dreams and what she learned along the way. Using her story, she empowers young women as they set out on their own professional path.

A majority of those who participated in the NeW Book Club were young professionals from the NeW Professional Network as well as recent college graduates. This book and the conversations we had about it helped prepare many of these women as they start to navigate their first jobs.
On June 10, members of the NeW Summer Book Club meet over Zoom to discuss the book.
While reading the book, members learned about finding their silhouette - a personality test that reveals a person’s driving motivations in life – as well as how to throw off the “golden handcuffs" to pursue their dreams and what ultimately makes them happy. Ganahl’s book left members inspired to make the difference they want to see in this world.

On June 24, we were thrilled to host an exclusive online event with the author, Heidi Ganahl. She joined book club members to share more about her story and answer questions they had about professional growth, running for office, and work-life balance.
Following the event, women from the book club gave encouraging feedback,

Lila Sadler, recent graduate from Liberty University, told NeW, “The NeW Book Club has been the most amazing experience. To be surrounded and challenged by so many diverse women during this time has been special for me. Reading and discussing Heidi’s book together has given us a way to share our hopes, our dreams, and our ideas in the midst of the challenges that we are all facing. This community has been such an encouragement."

"I've participated in a few virtual book clubs since the start of COVID, but only with NeW did I have the opportunity to speak directly to the authors of the books we were reading. The access is unparalleled, and I'm so grateful to have had this opportunity!"
expressed Bri Mirabile, recent graduate from The George Washington University.

"The NeW Book Club is always the highlight of my month. Between the thought provoking literature and insightful discussions with intelligent, powerhouse women, I'm always left refreshed. SheFactor by Heidi Ganahl didn't disappoint. Her easy to read and engaging writing style sparked several conversations in both personal and professional circles. I'm adding this book onto my must share shelf. Can't wait for our next book!" voiced Katie Calvert, a member of the NeW DC Professional Network.
