My name is Karen Meredith, and I’m a Gold Star mother.
I’m absolutely disgusted and distraught by the recent news that Donald Trump received intel months ago that a Russsian spy unit was putting out bounties on the lives of American troops deployed in Afghanistan.
President Trump has shown us time and again that he does not support the military. Knowing and allowing Putin to put a price on our troops’ heads is a disgrace, and egregiously working against our troops.
My son, First Lieutenant Ken Ballard, joined the military as a volunteer to serve his country -- not to be a bounty for a known enemy of our country.
This is criminal. It’s treasonous. It’s a threat to our national security. It’s a moral failure. We must demand transparency and accountability.
The White House announced Trump had finally “been briefed” on the information that sat on his desk for months. So far, only some members of Congress have received any information from this administration. And Trump hasn’t said a word about getting to the bottom of this.
This simply isn’t good enough. The American people deserve to learn more. We must demand that every member of Congress receive a full intelligence briefing. Add your name next to mine on VoteVets’ petition to demand an intelligence briefing for the entire U.S. Congress:
Those who serve in the U.S. military are not mercenaries, nor are they Trump’s little green Army men on his personal game board. My heart hurts for all Gold Star families and for the Blue Star families whose loved ones are currently serving.
