When voting rights are under attack
What do we do?
Stand up, fight back, become a Ballot Inspector!!!*
*apply now, decisions made by Weds, July 15 !
CONTEXT:
We know that COVID-19 will cause shortages of poll workers across the country this November, leading to longer wait times for voters, overwhelmed volunteers, and delayed vote tallies. To make sure our elections run smoothly here in New Hampshire, we need Ballot Inspectors at every polling location in the state ready to stand up for voters’ rights on Election Day, PPE and all. 😷
Many poll workers who have faithfully executed these positions over the years are at a higher risk for COVID-19. Young people who are able and at low-risk, can help reduce exposure of vulnerable members of our community by taking the responsibility into our own hands. We need Ballot Inspectors who can safely interact with all voters.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Ballot Inspectors (also known as Ballot Clerks) are community members who are interested in maintaining the integrity of our elections. As a Ballot Inspector, you would serve in one of the many roles needed at the polls — marking the checklist, handing out ballots, helping voters in need at the ballot booths, receiving ballots at the box, and more. These positions are two year terms (starting in August 2020), serve for all state and local elections, and come with a small monetary stipend for your service. 🤑
APPOINTED, NOT ELECTED:
Per New Hampshire state law, each political party is required to have a specific number of Ballot Inspectors in each town's polling locations (RSA 658:2). The number of Ballot Inspectors needed is determined by the NH Secretary of State. When you apply to be a ballot inspector, the New Hampshire Democratic Party will be able to directly appoint you to this position. You do not need to be publicly elected. Positions will be appointed by Weds, July 15th, so please submit your interest form today!
REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered Democrat 18+
- Live in the town/ward you hope to be a Ballot Inspector in (aka, your polling place)
- Have a passion for voting accessibility, protecting safe voting, and ensuring everyone's participation in democracy 💯
