ACLU Supporter, the First Amendment is clear: Government officials must not use their power to censor speech they don't like. Yet that's exactly what happened just last week. The chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, threatened to revoke the broadcast licenses of ABC affiliates because he didn't like what Jimmy Kimmel had to say on air. And shamefully, it worked. Contrary to the core values of our Constitution, Jimmy Kimmel was taken off the air for speech that the Trump administration dislikes.
Free people speak freely. This recent action is unconstitutional and un-American. Trump officials are repeatedly abusing their power to censor ideas they don't like, deciding who can speak, write, and even joke. That's why we're fighting back – joining with hundreds of artists and entertainers across the country to send a clear message that President Trump's attacks on our core rights won't go unanswered. And for the sake of our free press and freedom of speech, we need you with us. Thanks for all you do, The ACLU Team |
