We will keep fighting - because this is important.
The Legislative session is our opportunity every year to fight for our #fairshare in Baton Rouge and affect change statewide. For the last two months, we have been working tirelessly alongside other community organizations to kickstart change at the state level.
Thanks to your involvement, our local partners, and our New Orleans legislative delegation, we helped to end the diaper & feminine hygiene tax and passed the Emergency Voting Plan, which allows more people to vote by mail in our July 11th election next week.
We helped achieve wins for meaningful criminal justice reform. Several bills were signed by the Governor which allow more people to benefit from expungement, eliminated meaningless waiting periods, and ended solitary confinement for pregnant incarcerated people. Our criminal justice system still requires major structural reforms, but these are a step in the right direction.
