Friend,
As Americans reflect on our country’s history this weekend, far too many of us are worried about our future and how we’ll manage during the extended economic fallout from the COVID-19 crisis. It’s time to pass the HEROES Act.
Nearly 50 million people have lost their jobs since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the economy. As states, cities and towns face steep revenue shortfalls, they have laid off more than 1.6 million public service workers.
Bills are piling up, rent is due for many families this week, and the extra coronavirus UI benefits that working people were relying on are ending this month. Working families are in a pressure cooker and are looking to lawmakers for help.
The HEROES Act has been
sitting in the Senate for 10 days, but the GOP majority has refused to take it up and vote on this critical lifeline for working people and their families. Congress shouldn’t be running off to vacation while their constituents in places like your town still haven’t been given the basic resources and help they desperately need.
We need the HEROES Act more urgently than ever. Not only will it extend the crucial extra UI payments (which we’ve funded through our taxes, by the way), it’ll also get essential workers on the front lines proper PPE, give aid to local and state governments, and much more.
