The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear Chiles v. Salazar ([link removed](i.e.e-newsletter)&utm_source=emailsegment-wholefile1&utm_campaign=generaleffort) , a case challenging Colorado’s law that protects LGBTQ+ young people from the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy.
Despite the name, these practices are in no way legitimate “therapy” and lack any standards or basis in evidence. In contrast, research shows that LGBTQ+ youth who experienced conversion therapy are more than twice as likely to attempt suicide and more than 2.5 times as likely to report multiple suicide attempts in the past year.
The outcome of this case could have a profound impact on the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth nationwide. As this critical moment approaches, The Trevor Project is committed to raising awareness about what’s at stake and will not waver in our commitment to advocate for the safety, dignity, and humanity of the LGBTQ+ young people we serve.
Staying informed and actively supporting LGBTQ+ young people is a powerful way to show your allyship. Please take a moment to read our blog post and bookmark it — we will be updating it regularly as new information becomes available.
