Florida Republicans have already created a special committee to redraw the district lines, and they’re specifically targeting my district. Speaker Mike Johnson is already preparing to raise millions to flip my seat. His super PAC has even set up a special nominee fund just for FL-23. Republicans know my district is one of the most competitive in Florida. I won re-election by only 5 points last cycle. The GOP sees an opening here, and they’re moving fast. If they succeed in a mid-decade redistricting, it’s not just a risk to our hopes of flipping the house, it’s an existential risk to the future of our democracy. Make no mistake: they’re doing this to protect themselves, cling to their fragile majority, and silence Democratic voters. Every change they make could make it harder for Democrats to win in Florida, even in districts that should be competitive. These aren’t arbitrary lines drawn on some map no one cares about. This is a blatant attempt by Republicans to cheat their way into holding onto their razor-thin majority. We can’t wait for the new map to be released. The only way to fight back is by building the grassroots strength we’ll need to defend my seat — and every Florida voter’s voice.
