There's something profound you feel when you're alone in the wilderness, John.
I've felt it listening to meadowlarks and mourning doves in the California hills of my childhood. I've felt it climbing high into the mountains. I've even felt it spending that unexpected night alone in Sequoia National Park in the 80s, where I realized how small we are in nature's presence.
That connection to nature fuels my climate activism today.
But Donald Trump is destroying the very places that inspired me, and that belong to all of us. He's opened millions of acres of our public lands to drilling and mining since taking office. He's gutted protections. He's even pushed to sell our public lands to corporate polluters.
That's why speaking up for our public lands is more important than ever. National Public Lands Day is coming up on September 27, and I want to hear directly from JanePAC supporters. Why do our public lands matter to YOU?
It could be because these are the places where families create lifelong memories around campfires under star-filled skies. Or because they're the last refuges for endangered species fighting to survive. Or because they're the classrooms where children learn to love and protect our planet.
There's no right or wrong answer, John. Whatever your reasoning, I want to hear it.
Will you take a moment to share your story with me about why public lands matter to you? My team will select a few stories to feature on our social media accounts so everyone can see what our precious spaces mean to us.
When we speak with one voice about what we love, even the most powerful politicians have to listen.
Together, we can protect what belongs to all of us.
xx Jane
