Dear Friend, |
Last week, Trump's Environmental Protection Agency moved to eliminate critical protections against PFAS in drinking water — putting millions of people across the country at risk. |
Even at extremely low levels of exposure, PFAS — or “forever chemicals”— are linked to cancer, infertility, and kidney disease. |
Earthjustice, our partners, and advocates like you have spent years fighting to get these toxic chemicals out of our drinking water. The Trump administration’s decision is an abdication of the federal government’s public health responsibility. |
We are prepared to meet the scale of this administration’s backsliding with new litigation. |
Your support makes this work possible. Right now, a generous donor has offered to match new monthly gifts $1:$1 for 12 months. If you become a monthly donor today, you can double your impact all year long! |

PFAS TIMELINE |
March 2023: under the Biden administration, the EPA proposed to regulate six PFAS chemicals in drinking water. |
April 2024: the agency concluded there is no safe level of PFOA or PFOS exposure. The final rule set limits on PFOA and PFOS plus four additional PFAS chemicals in drinking water — GenX, PFHxS, PFNA, and PFBS — and required compliance with those standards by 2029. |
June-July 2024: Chemical industry and water utility trade groups challenged EPA’s final rule in court. |
September 11, 2025: The Trump administration announced that it will not be defending life-saving standards for GenX, PFHxS, PFNA, and PFBS in court. |
Ongoing: Earthjustice, our partners, and our clients are fighting back in court to defend drinking water standards and put pressure on the Environmental Protection Agency to live up to its name and protect the people and the environment from these harmful chemicals. |
This fight is not over. My colleagues and I are working in courtrooms across the country to keep toxic chemicals out of our communities. |
We need you to help us see these fights through to the end. If you are able, please make a gift today. Together, we can ensure healthy and safe drinking water for all. |
|
Thank you for your support. |
|
Sincerely,
Katherine O'Brien
