Friend,

Earlier this week, I shared a preview of the incredible leaders joining us for the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting.

Today, with just a few days to go, I want to share why this gathering matters so much this year — and why I’m hopeful that the CGI community can drive progress, launch new commitments and build new partnerships.

We’re facing a moment of extraordinary global challenge. But CGI was built for moments like this: when the need is urgent, the headlines feel overwhelming, and real action can’t wait.

Since 2005, this community has launched thousands of Commitments to Action that have changed lives around the world.

At our very first meeting, we helped spotlight Kiva.org — then a new microlending platform. It’s since facilitated billions in loans for entrepreneurs traditionally locked out of the financial system.

In the wake of the Great Recession, we brought together the AFL-CIO and state pension funds to invest in U.S. infrastructure, unlocking billions for projects like the reconstruction of LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B.

When Ebola struck West Africa, our partners coordinated a 100-ton medical airlift to support frontline responders.
Each of these started as a commitment and became measurable action on the ground.

Now, as humanitarian needs soar, and too many institutions step back from the global stage, we find strength in our partners who are stepping up. We’ll confront deepening food insecurity, widening gaps in health care access, and the accelerating toll of climate disasters.

And we won’t just talk about the problems. We’ll leave this meeting with new commitments, new partnerships, and plans to meet this moment.

I hope you’ll tune in and be part of it. If you’re looking for hope, or a reminder of what’s possible when people work together, you’ll find it here.
