In the city of Detroit’s 324-year history, there have been 75 mayors. They were all men.

We are proud to share the news that that’s about to change. Her Bold Move has officially endorsed Mary Sheffield – the youngest member of Detroit’s city council and the youngest person to ever hold the position of President of the Council – for the critical position of Detroit Mayor.

You may have heard that the city of Detroit is making a comeback. When Mary first joined the city council in 2013, the city was on the brink of bankruptcy. Fast forward 12 years, and Detroit has fully emerged: 12 balanced budgets with a surplus every year, 50-year record low crime, and so many other unbelievably positive trends under Mary’s leadership.

In the city's primary election, Mary received 51% of the vote, to her opponents' 17%. Now, she will once again be on the ballot in November, and we must ensure she wins.

Detroit has never before had a woman mayor, and it’s time for that to change. Help support Mary Sheffield as she works to become the next Mayor of Detroit by rushing $HPC/20.25 or more between her campaign and Her Bold Move today.

Mary is running on a platform of equitable quality of life improvements for all Detroiters. She wants children and families throughout the city to look forward to an integrated, well-connected, and safe city that makes homeownership and economic mobility possible.

When we asked Mary what issues impact the women of Detroit in particular – she answered that domestic violence and human trafficking were of particular concern.

“We do not have enough domestic violence shelters in our city. That is an issue that I wish we could talk more about, and I try to bring it up as much as I can,” Mary told us.

As Mayor, she will elevate the issue and allocate more resources toward solving the issue for the women of her city. In the history of Detroit, this has never been a priority for any of the men who have held the title as Mayor. We’re looking forward to helping Mary change that.
