Dear Jack,

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so today I’m sharing two striking images that tell an inspiring story about Mississippi’s progress.

The first is a U.S. map highlighting household income growth in 2024. Darker shades indicate faster growth, and Mississippi shines bright with the second-highest increase in the nation at an impressive 6%.
Household income growth by state 2024
While 21 states saw no income growth, our state is surging ahead.

The second image, created by our team at MCPP, compares vehicle production in Mississippi and Alabama to my native UK over the past 15 years. The contrast is staggering.

In 2010, the UK produced twice as many cars as Mississippi and Alabama combined. Today, our two states—despite having just 12% of the UK’s population—outproduce the UK by nearly double.

These images underscore a powerful truth: Mississippi is no longer the underdog.

Whether you compare our state to other US states, or to what is happening in the wider world, it is undeniable that something remarkable is beginning to happen in Mississippi.

While Argentina is often praised for its free-market reforms, I believe Mississippi is an even stronger example of how smart policies drive growth.

In recent years, our state has embraced bold changes: deregulating the labor market in 2021, reforming taxes in 2022, eliminating the income tax this year, and reforming classroom funding in 2024. We’ve also avoided costly renewable energy policies that have driven up energy prices elsewhere.

We still have work to do, particularly in ensuring our next generation receives the education they deserve. But the old narrative that Mississippi always lags behind? It’s outdated.

Enjoy your weekend, and thanks for being part of this exciting journey!
