Weekend Reading

Hi Friend,

Earlier this week, Israel launched a full military takeover of Gaza City. AFSC’s staff in Gaza were among those forced to leave. They joined tens of thousands of Palestinians who had to flee Gaza City after already being displaced multiple times.

Despite all they’ve faced over the past two years, our staff have continued to serve their communities. Before being forced to relocate, our team worked tirelessly to bring lifesaving aid to people in Gaza City and the surrounding areas. Read more about their efforts. [link removed]

Thank you to everyone for keeping up the calls and emails for a ceasefire and humanitarian access for Gaza. If you haven’t lately, please send a message today! [link removed]

IN THE MEDIA
AFSC responds to U.N. genocide findings in Gaza [link removed]
Last week, a U.N. commission confirmed what Palestinians and human rights organizations have long documented: Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. In this interview, AFSC’s Joyce Ajlouny discusses what the report means and calls on all countries to act now to stop the atrocities. “They have the legal responsibility to protect the lives of the innocent,” Joyce says. “Waiting one more day means we are risking more lives lost.” (Al Jazeera)

New podcast episode: Mass deportation is political violence [link removed]
What happens when immigration enforcement becomes a tool of political control? In this interview, AFSC’s Kerri Kennedy talks about how mass deportations aren’t just about immigration. They’re part of a systematic erosion of our civil liberties that began after 9/11. She also explores how communities are pushing back and how we can work to resist authoritarianism. Listen now. Speaking out for immigrant rights and democracy [link removed]
This week, dozens of residents gathered in downtown San Diego to protest ICE agents and National Guard in communities. Organized by local community organizations, the rally also voiced concerns about threats to First Amendment rights. “For people that are living in fear, it's important for them to hear and to see that people are willing to stick their necks out during a political climate that's extremely dangerous for people to do so,” said AFSC's Pedro Rios.
