What else is going on with Congress? Well…
Making DC Safe Again
Earlier this week, the House passed a number of bills to make our nation’s capital safer, including H.R. 4922, the DC CRIMES Act of 2025 led by Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL). This simple but commonsense bill ensures that individuals over the age of 18 are tried as adults and not as juveniles in DC. Currently, some individuals tried as juveniles are as old as 24! The House also passed H.R. 5143, the District of Columbia Policing Protection Act of 2025, which removes absurd restrictions on police and allows them to pursue suspects fleeing in a motor vehicle.
Democrat Funding Obstruction
On Friday, the House passed a clean continuing resolution to extend government funding through November 21, but Senate Democrats voted it down.
Democrats are threatening to shutdown the government in an attempt to slow the Trump agenda. Publicly, they have been demanding to extend COVID-era Obamacare subsidies and roll back the One Big Beautiful Bill Act’s important Medicaid reforms. But in reality, Democrats are grasping for a reason to shut down the government because they are scared to buck their radical base. When Schumer and Democrats voted for a CR in March, they were threatened with primary challenges.
Soon, Americans will find out if Democrats are willing to stop grandstanding and put the American people first.
Confirming Trump’s Nominees
Meanwhile, the Senate just went “nuclear” on the nominations process by changing the rules of the Senate to allow confirmations to be voted on in groups – or “en bloc,” as opposed to individually. This was done to get around the Democrats’ unprecedented hold on “unanimous consent” confirmations for non-controversial appointees. Heritage Action will continue to press senators to do the work and confirm President Trump’s nominees.
