John,

On Tuesday, September 16th, nearly 500 members from across the nation joined Color Of Change for our Urgent Call to Defend Black History.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and took action. If you were unable to attend, be sure to check out this recap and take action with us! Check our recording and next steps from the call.

Color Of Change Interim Executive Director, Portia Allen-Kyle, set the stage, opening up the evening for us. She called out the attacks on community and culture and the crisis currently unfolding across America as detailed in Project 2025, a coordinated effort to silence our voices, erase our history, and strip away our power. Her inspiring words reminded us why we must fight to preserve our cultural legacy and push back against the neo-segregationist movement.

We were joined by featured distinguished leaders Kimberlé Crenshaw, Executive Director of the African American Policy Forum, and Dr. Kaye Wise Whitehead, President of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, for a robust conversation on the importance and rich legacy of protecting and preserving Black History, and a community history lesson to ground us in truth.

Black History is under attack, but we can fight back. Sign our petition to Defend Black History and join us in the fight!

Additionally, we took some time to discuss the current attacks and strategies being deployed to attack Black communities across the country, from Los Angeles to DC, with threats out to Chicago and Memphis, and whatever Black-led city Donald Trump wants to target on any given day. It’s clear Trump has launched a full-fledged campaign against Black culture and Black people in America.

We shared our platform with on the ground partners about what is happening in DC and ways our members can get involved and support the fight. The Fair Budget Coalition and Free DC are standing in the battle to protect DC from these overreaches of power and the silencing of community voices.

Support DC, make a call, AND send a letter telling your member of Congress to stand with DC.

We want to thank all of our guests for their time and commitment and for joining us to talk about the role we can all play in preserving our collective Cultural Legacy but most importantly we want to thank you for showing up and using your voice.

Until Justice Is Real,
